for a mechanic to have to mess with any wires under the dash. The remote start system was legal right up until you installed the 5-speed swap, when a remote start with 5-speed safety features is required to still be legal. It's illegal in every state to have a remote start system hooked up on a manual transmission without the 2 features mentioned by Jay (JUNz). It's technically your job to know how your vehicle is equipped. In this case, insurance would view it as the owner's fault. If you head down the highway and some part breaks and you cause an accident, you're at fault despite not foreseeing that part breaking. You're in charge of the overall safety of your own vehicle, not anybody else. And I think you're grasping at straws trying to blame the mechanic. If I were your mechanic, I'd be pretty upset with you for trying to pawn off your issue on me. I know you're upset, as I would be also, but I think it's time to work with your insurance agency on this one, that's what they're there for.
